The Pro Basketball Association has a unique profit share set up to benefit pro athletes and teams alike. The PBA has positioned itself as a league for Pros by Pros. One innovative way it is doing this is with a profit share with players and teams. The league which begins in April with a combine and draft also has players that sign directly with clubs as free agents. Whether players choose the free agent route to a contract or by way of the PBA combine and draft, once on a roster in the Association, they have the ability to compete for half the door.
This is how it works: There is a 20 week season including regular season and playoffs. Every team in the league gets at least one playoff game. For every game played throughout the season, the winning team gets half of the door (attendance monies) generated from that game. Teams do not have a salary cap and have the ability to sign players for a set amount to be paid by the game or by the month – to be negotiated by and between the club and it’s players. But many teams will instead simply share all monies won from their games directly with their players. The Pro Basketball Association is set up as a true Association, rather than just a league, it’s a collaboration between the PBA, team ownership, and players and coaches alike to share revenues collected so that guys can get paid on a regular basis for the time and commitment they put onto the product on the floor.
