Brenham, Texas – The Pro Basketball Association announced on Tuesday that the Brenham Purple Reign had been awarded a franchise for the 2021 PBA Spring-Summer season. Team owner Michael Lewis is a sports agent with Sports Management Worldwide. In addition to the Brenham Purple Reign, Michael is also the owner of WABA Brenham Lady Reign. He is also the founder of of (HHH) Holes, Hoops, and Hope. He considers the basis for HHH idea to be a gift from God. The idea was born in 2012 when he began giving donuts and milk along with donated breakfast sandwiches from Burger King to the homeless and to churches in Downtown Houston during Thanksgiving. After running a free Friday night youth basketball sports mentoring camp with Neighborhood Centers, Inc. where he was a coach and mentor for at-risk and low income youth, Lewis developed what he said was “the faith to be able to pay it forward using the gifts that God has blessed me with”.
The 61-year young energetic former basketball coach and native of the San Francisco Bay Area and pro athlete has worked in the community with various organizations including Interfaith Ministries, Meals on Wheels Seniors Program, Big Brothers and Sisters, and NAACP. He was nominated for his work in the community by the VOICE SPEAKS and is a recipient of their MAN UP AWARDS. Michael’s mission is to give young men or women a chance to attend sports camps, to provide free fitness classes for seniors, low income families, and single mothers, with a special focus on attaining educational scholarships, free health screenings and legal aid from various community organizations and mentor, groom and develop the new young business leaders and media journalists. He has 7 god-daughters ages 21 to 32 . Three who work with him on the Purple Reign Ownership Team where he is the CEO and Founder of Purple Reign Basketball Inc. “Our mission with the Purple Reign is to uplift and become a platform for faith based minor league basketball in the Brookshire Texas and Brenham Texas area. We are Independently owned and participate in the American Basketball Association and Official Basketball Assocaition. Our goal is that every athlete is fully vested into spiritual training and physical preparation for competition on and become a community ambassador off the court.” Michael Lewis
Brenham is a little over an hour west of Houston. The Purple Reign fit right in with H-Town Astronauts (Spring, TX), Texas Tribe (Conroe, TX) and Shreveport-Bossier Knights. The Pro Basketball Association has 50 teams Nationwide from Seattle to New York City and everywhere in between and is considered by many to be the top Spring-Summer league in the United States with six current or former NBA people in the league’s front office and team management as well as 17 International Scouting Directors in 17 different Countries around the World who’s primary purpose for the PBA is to scout players for opportunities Globally. The Association begins play in May and over 17 weeks through the end of August.
