Goldsboro Bulldogs join the Pro Basketball Association

Goldsboro, North Carolina – The Pro Basketball Association announced on Thursday that the Goldsboro Bulldogs have been awarded a franchise for the 2021 PBA Spring-Summer Season. Team owner Quasim Harris is also the owner of Harris Auto Center L.L.C. Quasim was born in Newark , New Jersey but raised in Goldsboro NC and has been a huge fan of basketball since he was a kid, with his favorite team being the Lakers . The Goldsboro Bulldogs will bring professional basketball to the city of Goldsboro, North Carolina.

The organization has coaches that are hardworking and have experience coaching from different teams and bring great leadership, and are all-around great people to build an organization with. The club already has some players with experience playing high levels of basketball, that are unselfish, and overall have a good understanding of the game. The organization has a goal to bring a championship to Goldsboro, North Carolina. The Goldsboro Bulldogs will be playing their games at Goldsboro High School this season. The area has a long history of Minor League Baseball but from our online search this appears to be the first Minor League Basketball team to make Goldsboro home. Goldsboro has a population of 35,000 people and is approximately 1 hour Southeast of Raleigh and 1 hour Northeast of Fayetteville. The community is home to the Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. The organization will have special nights during the home schedule where Military personnel will receive discounted entry to the game.

“We’re really excited about Quasim and the Goldsboro Bulldogs. Regional Director of League Operations in the Southeast Angela Culliver has been instrumental in helping the PBA assemble a strong group of teams. Nationwide over 50 teams will compete in the PBA this Season and we’re located from Seattle, Washington to New York City and everywhere in between but North Carolina is somewhere we’ve been talking about and had front of mind for the league for sometime. They’re a perfect fit and help connect the dots between divisions for us because they geographically sit in the Southeast with partners in the Association in Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, Florida, and the like but North Carolina is also bordered by the Atlantic Coast so Coastal in the sense that there is easy access up to DC and Philly in a just a few hours. North Carolina is a hotbed of high level athletes and a community that is passionate about their hometown sports teams. This is a unique opportunity for Goldsboro, for basketball fans, the men and women serving on the base, that have something that is their own on Saturday nights this Summer and that can be really magical.”

Metroplex Lightning join the Pro Basketball Association

Dallas, Texas – The Pro Basketball Association announced on Tuesday that the Metroplex Lightning had been awarded a franchise in the 2021 PBA Spring-Summer season. Team owner Torrence Moody is a Chicago native but this transplant is a Dallas sports icon. For over a decade Moody, as he’s affectionately known around the DFW, has fielded some of the most competitive and prolific teams to compete at all levels. Whether it is Summer league, Pro-Am, Minor league Pro Ball, or Money Tournaments Moody and his teams have been winners in a big way on and off the court.

Recording artist Yella Beezy shown here (left) with Torrence Moody (right)

“Moody is one of those guys that’s just synonymous with high level hoops in the city. He knows everybody and everyone knows Moody. Winning a lot will do that but it’s more than that. The guy is real. He’s genuine and the players know this. He just wants to give back to the community. When he talks, people listen, because he’s been there and done that. People know he comes from the right place too. He’s one of the voices that is always echoing in my mind about the state of minor league basketball, it’s place in our community, and how we can collectively band together to make a difference through the sport. He’s always about putting his guys on that big stage and people respect that. But he’s also unafraid to speak his mind and tell it like it is… even if that’s a different view from the perceived norm. You’re going to get the real from Moody but it’s from the heart. The Pro Basketball Association is honored to have Moody and the Metroplex Lightning in the PBA and they’ll be another high power juggernaut competing in the very competitive Texas bubble in Lewisville – Sunday nights this Summer.” PBA Commissioner – Chris Terrell

In addition to Metroplex Lightning, Moody also has branded many other successful organizations including Got Dat Wurk, Core Power, and has been successful internationally, helping to bring pro teams from Japan to the States to play his organization. He’s competed and participated with or managed and owned teams in many domestic based minor leagues over the years including ABA, UBL, EBL, NABL, TBL, and MBL and many of the best players to come through North Texas have played for Moody over the years.

Texas – Current, pending, and proposed markets

Chicago Fury join the Pro Basketball Association

Chicago, Illinois – The Pro Basketball Association announced on Tuesday that the Chicago Fury had been awarded a franchise for the 2021 PBA Spring-Summer Season. Team owner Recce Carter is a 13 year ex-pro who played professionally in Europe and has won 4 championships. Upon returning to the States, after his career as a player overseas, Recce purchased the Chicago Fury franchise. The team is currently in the American Basketball Association’s Elite 8 out of 200 teams and are looking to wrap up their campaign to win the league championship.

Owner Recce Carter said “We are currently in the Elite 8 and our goal is to win the ABA Championship and then hopefully have the same success in the PBA.”

Chicago Fury – FAB 5

“We’re really excited about Recce and the Chicago Fury. They’re one of the top teams in the ABA overall and in the City of Chicago and they’ll be a terrific fit in our Midwest Division. We preach slow and moderate growth and organizations that are winners on and off the basketball court and the Fury check all those boxes. The PBA is kind of a who’s who from a number of other minor leagues and the ABA has a strong contingent of teams in the league but we also have many of the top MBL teams playing with us this Summer and some of the top teams from the PBL and other various minor leagues. We’ve acquired some other smaller leagues along the way and are fortunate to have some of the best teams Nationally come on board.”

“I think it’s really great that we can take the best of the best and work to build bridges and unite the sport at the levels below the NBA and NBA G-League. Our claim is as the top Spring-Summer Pro Basketball league in the United States and with over 50 teams Nationwide we have a lot to live up to. We have no interest in playing in the Fall-Winter season and love just being in our lane and giving organizations a way to keep the momentum on into the warmer weather where there is less competition from other Pro and Collegiate sports and when many of the best non-NBA players in the World are coming home so it’s a perfect space for us. I’m interested to see how these top clubs, who otherwise may not of been able to experience competing against one another, match up now that they’re in the same league. I know one thing, the Chicago Fury has a star studded program full of top level talent and they’re going to bring it all on game day.” PBA Commissioner – Chris Terrell

Texas Takeover joins the Pro Basketball Association

Fort Worth, Texas – The Pro Basketball Association announced on Monday that the Texas Takeover had been awarded a franchise in the PBA for the 2021 Spring-Summer Season. Team owner Derrick Newton is a military vet with over 15 years coaching AAU and Pro-Am. Having coached numerous players that have made All-State, All-Region and players that have played at the collegiate and professional levels over the years helped position the organization for success. Some of the players that have come through the program (formerly Fort Worth Elite) include Chasten King, Deondre Ray, and Norense Odiase. Odiase played at Texas Tech and for Phoenix in the NBA G-League. Some of the players currently on the roster include Raylon Howard (U of St. Marys), Bryon Cooke (Avila), and Jonathan Turner (Ranger College).

Texas Takeover will play in the bubble format held this Summer at the MAC in Lewisville, Texas featuring teams from all over North Texas including teams like the North Texas Prowlers, the F.I.R.M., DFW Just Hoops, Prymetyme, North Texas Saints, Texas Tsunami, Texas Hyenas, Dallas Kings, HoopGoon, DFW Powerhouse, Texas Admirals, Temple Hawks and Waco Terror among others. The bubble is a unique format to minor league basketball in which the participating organizations share in the game day operations costs involved with hosting a high level pro game at one facility. Covid protocols are in place and the league is able to oversee all aspects such as facility, referees, table staffing, video and full 20 category box scores, a graphics artist for promotion, door and gameday operations staffing, the book, the clock, a photographer, a DJ to give the fans an NBA experience for $5 for kids and $10 for adults. Players and coaches are accessible for media availability and will take time to meet and greet the fans after the game, sign autographs for the kids. It’s a way to do it pro and take your whole family to the game for a fun entertaining experience. We have concessions, a restaurant, seating, sponsor involvement, it’s something special that you really don’t find at this level.

South Division – Current, pending, and proposed markets

The “PRO” part of the Pro Basketball Association in the bubble? Teams vie for the door as the winner will take a 50% take of all attendance proceeds. We expect the top clubs will be paid handsomely to win games on Sunday nights and when you combine that with not having the operating costs of travel or the costs of hosting a game themselves it just makes it a no-brainer when compared to playing in another league financially. Now add to that the number of NBA and high level Overseas people involved in the PBA, 20 category box scores, full game pro looking video every game, scouts all over the World… it’s easy to figure out why the PBA has exploded onto the pro basketball scene domestically and is positioning itself as the highest level of pro basketball played domestically outside the NBA and NBA G-League. There are leagues that don’t check all these boxes and the only ones that get close are financially not comparable. In the PBA everybody wins – team owners, coaches, management, staff, players, scouts alike. If you want PRO – You want the PBA.

The Pro Basketball Association is the top Spring-Summer Pro league in the United States. Currently over 50 teams Nationwide from Seattle to New York City and everywhere in between, the PBA has divisions in the Northwest, Midwest, Northeast, Southeast, South, and Southwest and plays from May through August with playoffs in September. Salaries in the PBA are in upwards of $1500 per month for experienced overseas players and currently has many teams filling their rosters with top level guys coming home from abroad that want to keep working this summer towards NBA Summer League opportunities and lining them back up to head back overseas in the Fall. The PBA currently has 6 people in their front office with NBA Experience, and the National Director of Scouting for the PBA is current Houston Rockets Coach Antoine Broxsie. Also headed by Commissioner Chris Terrell and Deputy Commissioner Ricky Benitez the PBA has 37 years between them of coaching in first division clubs all over the World including the CBA in China, FIBA Europe, Venezuela, Mexico, Canada, and all over the World including Domestic leagues like the CBA, USBL, ABA, WBA, MBL, and TBL among others. The PBA also has 17 International Scouting Directors strategically placed Globally who’s sole purpose is to scout PBA players for opportunities in their countries and those include China, Japan, Australia, France, Hungary, Germany, Argentina, Mexico, the Dominican, Venezuela, and Canada among others. The league has established itself as the premiere platform for agents to get their players in a reputable league that has full 20 category box scores and quality pro looking video for every game. If you want PRO – You want the PBA.

Ultra Instinct will play in the bubble format held this Summer at the MAC in Lewisville, Texas featuring teams from all over North Texas including teams like the North Texas Prowlers, the F.I.R.M., DFW Just Hoops, Prymetyme, North Texas Saints, Texas Tsunami, Texas Hyenas, Dallas Kings, HoopGoon, DFW Powerhouse, Texas Admirals, Temple Hawks and Waco Terror among others. “The PNW-VETS are a perfect fit for what our league is all about. Guys like Robbyo that have that military background and experience and know what hard work, commitment, teamwork, and sacrificing for each other means to results on the battlefield and take many of those same principles with them in business and on the court. The PBA has many of their top clubs led by American veterans and that’s something we take pride in. Geographically they fit right in with that Northwest division that already has some great teams with Doc and his Quad City Flames, Michael Bethely and the Lilac City Legends and Ashley Robinson and the Kitsap Admirals. Ashley was instrumental in helping to form the division. I also want to give a tip of the cap to my good friend Dikran Zabunyan in Vancouver, Canada. Our brother to the North of our border was instrumental early on in the process of helping to put this Northwest Division together. He and Ashley and Doc go back a long way together and these guys just felt like family to me right away. I’m excited about having Dikran involved in what we’re doing now and in the future.” Chris Terrell – Commissioner of the PBA

Phoenix Valley Outlaws join the Pro Basketball Association

Phoenix, Arizona – The Pro Basketball Association announced on Thursday that the Phoenix Valley Outlaws had been awarded a franchise for the 2021 Spring-Summer PBA Season. Team owner Monnard Brown has been successfully competing with his organization in the American Basketball Association (ABA) and will be playing in the Pro Basketball Association (PBA) this upcoming season. The team prides itself on hard work and providing high flying, fun, family entertainment.

“We’ve had some great communication with Monnard and everyone with their group with the Phoenix Valley Outlaws. Geographically, they fit into our model of reducing travel costs and grouping teams in divisions to help organizations be more profitable. By following a model more inline with minor league baseball, our partner clubs in the association are able to avoid costly flights and hotels that would normally be associated with a professional nationwide league. We play a 10 game regular season where each team has 5 opponents geographically within the division where they play once at home and once on the road. Fans don’t want to see the same team over and over again and teams from Phoenix that aren’t at the NBA level don’t want to travel to the Midwest or Northeast to compete in a league. So there a large number of smaller regional leagues that struggle for attention from attendance and sponsors because it’s seen as just being a local level of play. With the PBA we’re able to reap the benefits of a Nationwide footprint, inter-division play in the post-season, but keep costs in check so we can offer a profitable model to our partners while still garnering attention from National sponsors. We’re excited about Monnard and the Outlaws. They’ve played minor leagues before and have learned the ropes by now. They have a strong team that will competitive on the floor and they’ll fit nicely with 7 City Knights, Silver State Mustangs, Vegas Huskies, Nevada Pharaohs, New Mexico Bullsnakes, and Southwest Desertcats in our Southwest Division.” PBA Commissioner Chris Terrell

Team owner and GM Dale Perkins Jr. was born and raised in Kansas City and graduated from Raytown South High School in 2001 and went to Park University in Parkville, Missouri. Perkins brings organizational leadership to the equation having been the Owner of Life Combat Training since 2017 and President of DFW Powerhouse since 2018 and is well rounded in each aspect of operations including working as an official for the last 19 years. A proud father of daughter, Divine Joy Perkins, “DJ” has been instrumental in the DFW basketball scene since 2010. Dale Perkins Jr. was named Pro Basketball Association Vice President of Conduct and Community Awareness in December of 2020.

“Dale is a personal friend of mine. We’ve known each other for years and spent a lot of time talking about the game of basketball and changing the sport for the better at the minor league level. He’s one of the first people I called when we started working out details of forming the league and he was a part of the first group announced in executive management at the league level last year. His taking that vision forward with his brand and putting his own team in the league is really just a culmination of what we’ve been working so hard for the community, for the players, for the referees, and coaches. We really just want something that everyone can be proud of and use as a platform to the next levels. I can’t think of a person who is more genuine, he doesn’t pull punches, and will tell you exactly what he’s thinking. He’s direct, sincere, and his aspirations for his guys is heartfelt. He puts love into the game of basketball and is excellent at using it as a vehicle for personal growth on and off the basketball court. A+ human being. Couldn’t be happier that he’s a big part of what we’re doing in the PBA.” PBA Commissioner Chris Terrell

Silver State Mustangs join the Pro Basketball Association

Henderson, Nevada – The Pro Basketball Association announced on Thursday that the Silver State Mustangs had been awarded a franchise for the 2021 PBA Spring-Summer season. Marcus Mooney is the owner of the Mustangs out of Henderson, Nevada. He’s been coaching and training basketball for over 20 years. The goal of the organization is to bring professional basketball to Henderson.

Marcus Mooney – Owner – Silver State Mustangs

“The Mustangs have acquired some of the most athletic, high IQ players from all over the United States to bring competitive exciting games for our fans. We will be active in the community as well as becoming mentors for those who are looking to get to the next level through different camps and clinics. We Got You…. we want to thank Chris Terrell and the whole PBA family for allowing us the opportunity to play for a great organization.Go Mustangs!!!!!” Marcus Mooney – Owner – Silver State Mustangs

Silver State Mustangs Home Uniform reveal

The Mustangs will play in the Southwest Division and Regional Director of League Operations Samantha Stukes has been working to assemble an all-star cast of top level teams in the division. Silver State joins Las Vegas Huskies and Nevada Pharaohs in the greater Southern Nevada area. The 7 City Knights were announced just last week in the Phoenix area. The New Mexico Bullsnakes make Albuquerque home. And the Southwest Desertcats (owned by Stukes) play out of El Paso, Texas. The division now features six teams and that is the blueprint model of the PBA. Travel that is limited to divisional play where each team plays the others once at home and once on the road in a 10 game regular season over 17 weeks followed immediately by a single elimination playoffs where the first round between top clubs is at the home of the higher seed, again in division.

Southwest Division – Current, pending, and proposed markets

When a team comes out of the Southwest they’d be matched up in the Second round, again single elimination, against the neighboring division, at the home of the higher seed. The classic model noted above works to keep travel costs down by eliminating the need for flights. Hotels are far and few between as well except for once when travelling from one side of the division to the other. Southwest Desertcats can make a Vegas weekend out of it and the clubs out of Nevada can do the same when they play in El Paso and Albuquerque. That one trip all season can be planned for and budgeted but keep the rest of the travel to a minimum and that allows for greater financial flexibility. The PBA is currently in conversation with clubs in California who are trying to throw their hat into the ring. It’s possible with the right team in the right market that the division could see expansion once again before the Pro Draft Combines at the end of the Month.
